A Modern Oasis | Bathing in Luxury with Bassetts in Downpatrick

Nestled on the outskirts of Downpatrick, County Down, is a home that is a testament to a couple’s vision and dedication. Sinead and Michael, the proud owners of a stunning 2400-square-foot four-bedroom bungalow, embarked on a self-build journey that turned their dream into a reality. Working offshore for three weeks at a time, Michael lent his expertise to construct their haven, showcasing a modern style that welcomes natural light.

Breaking ground in October 2020, the couple faced challenges as material prices soared by 20%, forcing them to take matters into their own hands to complete labour where they could to help control costs. Undeterred, they pressed on, resulting in a home that exudes warmth, comfort, and luxury.

One of the standout features of their home was the decision to install underfloor heating throughout. Sinead, considering her young family, found this choice not only modern but also practical. The radiant warmth underfoot doesn’t just add comfort but allows for freedom in arranging furniture and window dressings without any hindrance.

Bassetts, played a pivotal role in bringing Sinead’s vision to life. Their Downpatrick branch, led by bathroom showroom consultant Gareth Holland made his mark on the project. Sinead praises Gareth’s unparalleled service, describing him as “top class.” His trustworthiness, attentive listening, and unwavering support made the bathroom selection process, arguably the most challenging part of the self-build, a seamless experience.

Main Bathroom | The main bathroom, a sanctuary for the entire family, reflects Sinead’s desire for a minimalist aesthetic. The space emanates a sense of luxury and cleanliness with modern Aqualla Kyloe matt black fixtures, plain tiles, and wall hung Sima unit with fluted finish. The generously sized wet floor shower area and a large Adamsez Sorrento freestanding bath cater to the needs of a young family, combining functionality with elegance.

Ensuite | Stepping into the master en-suite, Sinead opted for luxury. Brushed brass Aqualla wall-mounted tap and shower fixtures and a wall-hung toilet elevate the space, while a subtle terrazzo tile ties the room together, providing texture and warmth. The backlit LED mirror is a stunning focal point against slatted wall panelling. Adding a dash of colour, a wall-hung two-drawer midnight blue Novum Fabrica vanity unit from HIB complements the overall design without overwhelming the senses.

Downstairs Loo | The downstairs loo, though a smaller space, boasts a simple and modern design. A wall-hung sink and shelves contribute to the illusion of space, while herringbone wood-effect tiles connect the open-plan kitchen living area to the utility room bathroom. The continuity in design throughout the home speaks volumes about Sinead’s meticulous planning and Gareth’s ability to bring those plans to fruition.

As their home stands proudly on the outskirts of Downpatrick, Sinead and Michael bask in the comfort, luxury, and modernity that their self-build project has brought to life.
