A Landmark Hotel, Expanding for the Future

After 42 successful years in business, the Carrickdale Hotel continues to grow. Perfectly positioned as the halfway point between Dublin and Belfast, the hotel has become a renowned destination for leisure breaks, spa retreats, conferences, events and dining. As demand for larger conferences and events increased, the need for expansion became clear.

For the Carrickdale, the brief was simple yet ambitious: create high-end, beautifully finished bathrooms that would enhance the overall guest experience and reflect the hotel’s quality-first ethos.

Bathrooms play a vital role in shaping a guest’s stay. Every detail matters, from lighting to layout to the tactile experience of the finishes.

The final result?
Scandinavian-style sinks, strong, well-considered lighting, luxury walk-in showers with a refined, high-end finish throughout.

Engineering Excellence Behind the Scenes

While guests enjoy the luxury, it’s the unseen systems that ensure comfort and reliability every day.

Stuart Hunter, Branch Manager at Bassetts Newry, led the supply of all heating pumps for the new wing. Working closely with Bassetts Head Office in Portadown, the team designed a new pump system tailored specifically to the hotel’s requirements.

Co-ordination and teamwork were central to the project’s success. Every element was delivered efficiently and correctly without interrupting the hotel’s day-to-day operations. By partnering with Bassetts’ trusted key suppliers, Stuart ensured reliability and consistency throughout the installation.

For Stuart, this project reinforced his confidence in Bassetts’ ability to operate as a trusted partner on large-scale commercial projects, delivering not only quality products, but dependable expertise.

A Design-Led, Collaborative Approach

Martin McVeigh, Showroom Consultant at Bassetts, acted as Project Manager for the Carrickdale development and given the hotel’s prestigious history and well-known location, Martin was delighted to be involved in such a landmark project.

Martin's role encompassed: pricing and budgeting, co-ordination across teams, ensuring on-time deliveries, liaising with suppliers for correct product selection and regular communication with the Carrickdale team.

The project was highly collaborative, allowing both teams to explore different ideas, modules and formations within the clear design brief provided. The Carrickdale’s priority was always quality over quantity and Martin ensured that this standard was upheld at every stage.

He described the experience as rewarding, particularly due to the strong collaboration between the internal Bassetts team and the Carrickdale team.
